While all the leaves are falling and the perennial plants are dying back, it is an excellent time of year to get your garden in order!

This is the time of year that your flowering plants are getting ready to go dormant and the soil is moist and soft. This is the time of year that your garden looks like it doesn’t need attention…but IT DOES!

This is THE time of year to prune your perennials and move them if desired.

Find out which plants are perennials and will come back in the spring versus annual plants in areas that can be planted. Find out which are the basal leaves of your flowering perennials that can remain, versus upper leaves on stalks that can be pruned. Find out if your perennials would be better off under different conditions.

Also, this is THE time of year to plant bare root fruit trees and roses, in addition to bulbs.

If you want roses and fruits in the summer, NOW is the time to plant! If you want your garden to pop spring color before anyone else’s, NOW is the time to plan your spring flower show!

Determine which areas of your garden are best for fruit trees, roses and bulbs. Plan your plantings so you have flowers all spring and summer!
