Most of us enjoy the sound of song birds and the experience of discovering a bird’s nest and watching birds fly about from plant to plant. We find it soothing, reassuring and well, fascinating!

By integrating some key shrubs into your garden you can attract song birds to visit you year-round.

The Audubon Society of Northern Virginia recommends some key shrub species to create a wildlife sanctuary, while diversity is always of the essence. In addition to the plant species in the photos below, they also include Photinia pyrifolia, Ilex glabra, Viburnum prunifolium, and Alnus serrulata.
