Did you know that you could get partial reimbursement for native plantings that conserve rainwater and minimize erosion?

The Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District offers the VCAP which is a grant that, upon meeting eligibility, will reimburse a portion of the cost of the native planting.
Click here to see FAQs about the VCAP.
The VCAP does not, however, create native plant garden designs or install the native plants.
Additionally, traditional lawn and landscaping companies do not typically cultivate the appropriate native plants and are not familiar enough to design and purchase quality native plantings.
I offer a service that includes not only the native plant garden design and native plant list but also coordination of the VCAP requirements, native plant sellers and your landscape company to install. All design and installation service components are eligible for potential reimbursement.
This VCAP Coordination offering includes the following steps*:
- Site visit with environmental assessment, measurements, photos and interview.
- Create a project design with a scaled sketch.
- Native plant list with quantities.
- Search online plant inventories at native plant seller websites.
- Develop a native plant budget based on availability
- Contact landscaper to get estimate for native planting installation.
- Gathering and compiling the information and components required for the VCAP/CAP application.*
- Facilitate the payment of both plant seller and landscape company.
- Schedule a date for native plants to be transported and installed.
- Visit the site for a follow-up and establish maintenance routine including photos.
- Finalize budget, including invoices, VCAP forms, photos.*
- Submit all the requirements to the VCAP for reimbursement.*
*Please note that services that involve form filling will not be eligible for reimbursement by the VCAP/CAP.
